The FlameTezo works best on raw, untreated surfaces. Coatings can interfere with readings, so test on a freshly cut end or scraped area for the most accurate moisture measurement on treated materials.

Ideal firewood measures below 20% moisture. The FlameTezo's green backlight confirms this range. Wood above 25% produces excessive smoke and creosote buildup, while properly seasoned wood burns hot and clean.

Insert pins at least 1/4 inch deep for surface readings or deeper for core moisture. The FlameTezo measures moisture where the pins make contact, so penetration depth affects what layer you're testing.

The standard pins penetrate up to 3/8 inch, perfect for most applications. For very thick materials, test from multiple sides or freshly split surfaces to gauge internal moisture levels throughout the material.

Replace pins when bent, corroded, or giving inconsistent readings - typically after hundreds of uses. The included spare pair extends meter life, and replacement pins are inexpensive compared to buying a new unit.

The Wall/Building mode works on porous masonry and concrete up to 30% moisture. However, very dense concrete or sealed surfaces may give limited readings since the pin-type design requires some material penetration.

The FlameTezo requires no calibration - it's ready out of the box. Simply keep pins clean and dry between uses. Replace batteries when the display dims, and store in a dry location to maintain accuracy.
